THE way people gush over tech stuff today, the addition of a little notebook PC might herald as much excitement as a human bundle of joy.

The Acer Aspire One is a compact notebook PC just 24cm x 17cm and less than 1kg.

Like other basic systems, it features a simple graphical Linux-based interface with icons categorised under connect, works, fun and files.

The computer, which runs on the Intel Atom processor, comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory and can be boosted with two SD cards. Once the cards are plugged in, the Smart File Manager software merges all storage space together, so you see only one combined drive.

There are also two wireless slots so you can choose 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and either 3G or Wi-Max for connecting to the Internet.
